In order to mitigate the housing crisis in Pakistan, annual deficit of 350,000, he has launched Awami Villas that caters exclusively to the needs of the lower income segment in the country; which has the fastest growing middle class in the region. He has taken this initiative without any profit motivation; a large share of the cost of the project will be borne by him.

Educational & Family Background
Malik Riaz Hussain was born a 3rd child to a middle class family of eight.
He is not a graduate he simply completed his basic schooling from the local school here in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
In all humanity, he stated that he started his career with only fifteen hundred rupees and this amount too had been borrowed from relatives. A small contract from a military engineering service jump started his practical career. As of 1969 he had no bungalow, car or even a motor cycle or bicycle to his name. It was in such difficult times in 1971 that his one and a half years daughter contracted food poisoning and consequently suffered from diarrhea and vomiting. He took her to the doctor. Unfortunately, in such a situation he did not have the money to buy medicines prescribed by the doctor, upon this he was compelled to sell his household brass water container for Rs. 45 with which he purchased medicine from a chemist. Later he got his daughter admitted to the Hospital, and the sale of other household utensils paid for rest of her treatment.
Henceforth his financial condition rapidly improved. From 1969 to May 1986 he kept entertaining Military Engineering Services contracts. In 1996, he entered in a joint venture with the Bahria Foundation of Pakistan Navy and together launched the Bahria Town. Later Pakistan Navy was separated from the project & Malik Riaz Hussain took on the project himself.
